MACLEAN’S PILLAGE & SPILLAGE

The limited edition Maclean’s Pillage & Maclean’s Spillage has sold out and has raised £70,000 for Feedback Madagascar. The MacLean’s would like to raise a glass to you all for helping us turn Scotch whisky into clean water for life for thousands of people. Slàinte Mhath.

The Story

As part of our training for the 2019 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, we launched a ‘Whisky for Water’ campaign to provide clean water to thousands in Madagascar, rowing up the West Coast of Scotland and ‘pillaging’ whisky from distilleries as we went.

Over the course of ten days, we covered about 300 miles, rowing from Lochranza on the Isle of Arran to Talisker on Skye, visiting the 17 distilleries that had very kindly donated whisky towards the campaign.

The donated whisky has been blended by a team of experts led by our father, Charles MacLean, and advised by the legendary Richard Paterson. Please see above a film of the whole blending process, the result of which was two expressions: Maclean’s Pillage (a blended malt), and Maclean’s Spillage (a blended Scotch).

Sold Out

Maclean’s Pillage & Maclean’s Spillage have sold out, raising £70,000 for Feedback Madagascar. Proceeds from the sale of the whiskies has enabled the Argyll-based charity to build “Broar holes”, providing clean water for life to more than 3,000 people in the impoverished country of Madagascar where 20% of deaths of children under five are from water-borne diseases.

For those who aren’t able to snap up a bottle of either Pillage or Spillage, 700 x 5cl miniatures of Spillage are still available. Pease contact info@broar.co.uk for more details.

Each bottle contained a small amount of whisky, which accompanied us during our 35-day row from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean in the Atlantic Campaigns Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

Just 168 bottles of MacLean’s Pillage, a blended Malt, and 299 bottles of MacLean’s Spillage, a blended Scotch, were available.

All funds raised have gone towards life-saving fresh water boreholes in Madagascar, and every single bottle has paid for clean water for life for several Malagasy families.

Every drop sold has made a difference.
