Ahoy!
Welcome to the Ship's Log, our short and honest daily updates from the Pacific Ocean. This log entry is in a slightly different format and length to the entries that will follow from our time at sea, but we thought an update from our time in Peru was overdue.
It’s been a little uncertain here at the start line of our Pacific row, largely due to challenges with shipping agents, new regulations in Peru (we were only the second ever ATA Carnet into the country if that means anything to you…) and then significant delays receiving various permissions and clearances from customs. Understandably, ‘ocean row’ doesn’t seem to be on the system for temporary imports…
We’ve been holding off giving a new departure date, until we’ve had a bit more clarity ourselves, however at long last we have received the food for our voyage yesterday evening and therefore can finally confirm a few things.
DEPARTURE DATE
Saturday 12th April, 21:00 UTC
Live content, social media and PR will be going out throughout the day. Please feel free to share this to maximise exposure.
HOW TO FOLLOW
www.themacleanbrothers.com
Our web page will be the main place to follow all aspects of the journey, with links to all platforms. The new website goes live in the next 24 hours.
Location Tracking: You can view our live location via our website homepage, or use the ‘YB’ tracking app and search for Rare Whisky 101 Pacific Row, however YB will be less accurate than our website (which will use much more regular GPS and AIS positioning). We will also be sharing audio clips on here. Estimated arrival on this will be the most accurate and we will endeavour to keep a realistic arrival window, which will be based on average speed and adjustments made by our weather router.
Ships Log: We will be sending out very short daily emails with our ships log (mainly text only). Dad will then be writing a longer weekly summary called the Captain's Catch (with a few embellishments). Feel free to share this with whomever you feel appropriate.
Social Media: We aim to share a multitude of images and videos throughout our crossing per week, on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Follow @themacleanbrothers on all channels to keep updated.
Live Streaming: Dependent on signal, we will aim to do regular, daily livestreams from the Pacific. We will also be looking to do a live stream during departure on Saturday (starting 20:00 UTC), keep an eye out on our Instagram for updates on this.
Donations: Donations to clean water projects, where 100% of the money will go towards the cause, should go through our Givestar donations page here. For international donations, please get in touch with Guy (guy@themacleanfoundation.org) for further details or for provision of a tax deductible receipt.
NEXT STEPS
We finish preparing the boat and pack 150 days worth of oats, freeze dried rations and snacks into every nook and cranny. We will be flat out over the next few days prior to Saturday's departure but we will endeavour to keep our log book entries updated.
Lastly, we can’t thank you enough for all your incredible support. Getting to the start line is a huge milestone, one that simply wouldn’t have been possible without your support, and we can’t wait to share the experience and raise as much money as possible for clean water projects along the way!
All the best,
Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan
